Pucón (pronounced Poo Cone)

Chile, Nov - Chile

Day 1, we took our first hard core bus ride, a 12 hour overnighter from Santiago to Poo Cone and it was great. So much better than flying! The luxury bus had super wide seats, awesome reclinage and even a bus flight attendant giving us blankets, pillows and breakfast biscuits.

Poo Cone might as well have been Lake Tahoe or Breckenridge, except for the giant Volcano Villarica looming over town, completely covered in snow. We’re positive if we knew how to say “epic,” “pow pow” or “shredding the gnar” in Spanish, we would have heard those words non-stop, well at least if it were winter. We loved our guest house, which was rad, clean with super friendly staff, and it didn’t hurt that the hostel next door had an amazing vegetarian restaurant for Lindsey.

After a little moseying around the city and casual inquiries into rafting, we fell into an afternoon black diamond rafting trip that day which was really, really fun. For us amateurs, the class III and IV action was plenty to handle. And capped with a bacon cheeseburger with peanut butter for Danny and veggie tacos for Lindsey, we virtually shredded the Poo Cone gnar (that didn’t sound right).

Day 2 of Poo Coning was a little rougher, as we embarked on what we were told was an easy 3 hour bike ride to a water fall. It all started off well; even when we got a little lost, we ended up flying down this narrow dirt path through beautiful yellow blooming bushes. But it took a bummer turn after our slow climb up some hills turned into a steep decent on thick pebble roads, leading to a pretty big spill by Lindsey. Luckily, though, the camera was ok. Oh wait, I mean Lindsey was ok although it looks like she got pegged in the hip by a Mitch Williams fastball. Oh, and then we only had 2 hours left on the Pebble Beach bike ride tour, followed by another 2 hours riding back on the main highway. The waterfalls were cool, but next time, we’ll take the bus.

Day 3 in Poo Cone felt more like Pee Cone as it was raining on and off all day, but we made the best of it brah, taking a bus to some nearby natural hot springs to heal Lindsey’s wounds, and even made friends with a Swiss couple and had dinner with them.

Below are a few of our favorite pictures from Pucón, but you can see all of our pics from Pucón on Flickr, here.
